<b>Köpenick</b> is an area in the borough of Treptow-Köpenick in Berlin. It is located in the south-east of the city.
Prior to Berlin's 2001 administrative reform, Köpenick was a borough in its own right—Berlin's largest by area—consisting of the localities of Köpenick,Schönweide, Oberschöneweide, Grünau, Spindlersfeld, Schmöckwitz, Müggelheim, Rahnsdorf, and Friedrichshagen. It also has the largest percentage of its area covered by forests and water (most notably the Müggelsee lake).
Until 2002 there was near Uhlenhorst a large radio facility for MW and FM with a 248 metre high self-radiating radio mast, which was insulated against earth. The FM services of this facility were moved to the central TV Tower near the Alexanderplatz and the AM transmitters were moved to a new aerial mast at Zehlendorf (near Oranienburg).
Köpenick lies in the middle of the at the confluence of the river Dahme with the Spree. The Spree connects Köpenick with the Müggelsee and the centre of Berlin. Shortly before the coming together of the Spree and Dahme, the Schlossinsel lies on the Dahme. Its Köpenicker Schloss was renovated in 2004. The Müggelberge hills in the south-east of Köpenick reach 114.7 m above sea level, making them this the highest natural point of Berlin.
With 12,776 hectares (14.3 % of the area of Berlin) the Bezirk of Köpenick has the largest extent of all the districts (Stadtteile) of Berlin, while with 116,000 inhabitants (about 3,3 % of Berlin's population) Köpenick is one of the least settled parts of the city. Köpenick is sometimes called the "green lungs" of Berlin (Grüne Lunge Berlins).

The <b>Reichstag building</b> in Berlin was constructed to house the Reichstag, the first parliament of the German Empire. It was opened in 1894 and housed the Reichstag until 1933, when it was severely damaged in a fire supposedly set by a Dutch communist, Marinus van der Lubbe,[1] who was later beheaded for the crime, although it may have been the Nazi Party who committed the crime in an attempt to flush out Communism. The National Socialist German Workers Party used this event as casus belli to begin a purge of "traitors" in Berlin and to ban the KPD, the German Communist Party. Today's parliament of Germany is called the Bundestag. The Reichstag as a parliament dates back to the Holy Roman Empire and ceased to act as a true parliament in the years of the Nazi regime (1933–1945). In today's usage, the German term Reichstag or Reichstagsgebäude (Reichstag building) refers to the building, while the term Bundestag refers to the institution.

The <b>Palast der Republik</b> (Palace of the Republic) was a building in Berlin, on the bank of the River Spree between Schloßplatz and the Lustgarten (both referred to jointly as Marx-Engels-Platz from 1951 to 1994). It served primarily as the seat of the East German parliament, the Volkskammer, but it also housed two large auditoriums, art galleries, restaurants and a bowling alley.
Construction
The Palast was constructed from 1973 to 1976 in the prevailing architectural style for East German buildings, using bronze mirrored windows. The grand opening ceremony was held on April 23, 1976, and the building was opened to the public two days afterwards on April 25, 1976. It was built on the site of the former Berlin Stadtschloss (Berlin City Palace), which was damaged during World War II, but eventually demolished by the government authorities in 1950, as they regarded it a symbol of Prussian imperialism.
Once opened, the building was sometimes nicknamed "Ballast der Republik" ("Ballast of the Republic"), "Erichs Lampenladen" ("Erich's Lamp Shop", referring to the then incumbent Erich Honecker and the 1001 lamps hanging in the foyer), or "Palazzo Prozzo."
<b> Asbestos contamination</b>
Just prior to German reunification in October, 1990, the structure was found to be contaminated with asbestos, and was closed to the public on September 19, 1990 by decree of the Volkskammer. By 2003, all the asbestos had been removed along with internal and external fittings allowing safe deconstruction.
<b> Demolition</b>
Despite strong resentment felt by many Germans, in November, 2003, the German parliament decided to demolish the building and leave the area as parkland until funding for the reconstruction of the Berlin City Palace could be found. Demolition started on February 6, 2006, and was scheduled to last about fifteen months at a cost of twelve million euros. The demolition lasted longer than scheduled because of hazards to neighboring buildings. Dismantling of the structure was seriously delayed after more asbestos was discovered in various locations, and the estimated completion date was pushed back to the end of 2008. About 35,000 tonnes of steel that once held this building together are now being shipped to the U.A.E. to be used for the construction of the Burj Dubai.

The <b>Lustgarten</b> ("Pleasure Garden") is a park on Museum Island in central Berlin, near the site of the former Berliner Stadtschloss (Berlin City Palace) of which it was originally a part. At various times in its history, the park has been used as a parade ground, a place for mass rallies and a public park.
The area of the Lustgarten was originally developed in the 16th century as a kitchen garden attached to the Palace, then the residence of the Elector of Brandenburg, the core of the later Kingdom of Prussia. After the devastation of Germany during the Thirty Years War, Berlin was redeveloped by Friedrich Wilhelm (the Great Elector) and his Dutch wife, Luise Henriette of Nassau. It was Luise, with the assistance of a military engineer Johann Mauritz and a landscape gardener Michael Hanff, who, in 1646, converted the former kitchen garden into a formal garden, with fountains and geometric paths, and gave it its current name.
In 1713, Friedrich Wilhelm I became King of Prussia and set about converting Prussia into a militarised state. He ripped out his grandmother's garden and converted the Lustgarten into a sand-covered parade ground: Pariser Platz near the Brandenburg Gate and Leipziger Platz were also laid out as parade grounds at this time. In 1790, Friedrich Wilhelm II allowed the Lustgarten to be turned back into a park, but during French occupation of Berlin in 1806 Napoleon again drilled troops there.
In the early 19th century, the enlarged and increasingly wealthy Kingdom of Prussia undertook major redevelopments of central Berlin. A large, new classical building, the Old Museum, was built at the north-western end of the Lustgarten by the leading architect, Karl Friedrich Schinkel, and between 1826 and 1829 the Lustgarten was redesigned by Peter Joseph Lenné, with formal paths dividing the park into six sectors. A 13-metre high fountain in the centre, operated by a steam engine, was one of the marvels of the age. Between 1894 and 1905, the old Protestant church on the northern side of the park was replaced by a much larger building, the Berlin Cathedral (in German, "Berliner Dom"), designed by Julius Carl Raschdorff. In 1871, the fountain was replaced by a large equestrian statue of Friedrich Wilhelm III.
During the years of the Weimar Republic, the Lustgarten was frequently used for political demonstrations. The Socialists and Communists held frequent rallies there. In August 1921, 500,000 people demonstrated against right-wing extremist violence. After the murder of Foreign Minister Walther Rathenau in June 1922, 250,000 protested in the Lustgarten. In February, 1933, 200,000 people demonstrated against the new Nazi Party regime of Adolf Hitler: shortly afterwards public opposition to the regime was banned. Under the Nazis, the Lustgarten was converted into a site for mass rallies. In 1934, it was paved over and the equestrian statue removed. Hitler addressed mass rallies of up to a million people there.
By the end of World War II in 1945, the Lustgarten was a bomb-pitted wasteland. The German Democratic Republic left Hitler's paving in place, but planted lime trees around the parade ground to reduce its militaristic appearance. The whole area was renamed Marx-Engels-Platz. The City Palace was demolished and later replaced by the modernist Palace of the Republic on part of the site.
A movement to restore the Lustgarten to its earlier role as a park began once Germany was reunified in 1991. In 1997, the Berlin Senate commissioned the landscape architect Hans Loidl to redesign the area in the spirit of Lenné's design and construction work began in 1998. The Lustgarten now features fountains and is once again a park in the heart of a reunited Berlin.

Können Fische träumen? Wenn es nach den Carving-Künstlern <b>Lena Tempich</b> und <b>Johannes Weckl</b> geht, träumen sie sogar sehr intensiv.
Die Berliner Künstlerin und mehmalige Sandsation-Teilnehmerin sowie der Bildhauer vom Chiemsee gewähren einen fantastischen Blick unter die Oberfläche und laden das Publikum ein, in die Traumwelt der Tiefseefische einzutauchen. Die Skulptur ist ebenfalls eine Anspielung auf das "Sehen und Gesehen werden" in unserer modernen Gesellschaft, in der viele Augen auf uns gerichtet sind und der Blick manchmal seine Schärfe verliert. Tief dort unten in der Schwärze der Tiefsee bedarf es jedoch eines genaueren Beobachtungsvermögens.")

<b>LA DEMOISELLE AU JARDIN</b>
Der ehemalige Chefkoch und Frankreichs berühmtester Sandscaver <b>Benoit Dutherage</b> und die ausgebildete Sängerin <b>Audrey Ramoulux</b> lernten sich auf einem internationalen Sandskulpurenfestival kennen. Seitdem arbeiten sie zusammen mit dem vergänglichen Medium Sand.
Ihre Skulptur zeigt eine typische Parisienne der frühen 1920er Jahre inmitten eines romantischen Gartens. Verträumt lauscht das "Fräulein" den süßen Klängen der Engel. Inspiriert von den erotischen Frauenportraits des Jugendstil-Künstlers Alfons Maria Mucher, symbolisiert das Werk die LIebe zum Romantischen, die Deutsche und Franzosen gleichermaßen teilen.")

The <b>Sony Center</b> is a Sony-sponsored building complex located at the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, Germany. It opened in 2000
The site was originally a bustling city center in the early 20th Century. After World War II, the area suffered a sharp decline and was eventually left abandoned. As part of a redevelopment effort for the area, the center was constructed. The centre was designed by Helmut Jahn and construction was completed in 2000 at a total cost of US$800M. In February 2008 Sony sold Berlin's Sony Center for less than US$880 to a group of German and US investment funds, including investment bank Morgan Stanley, Corpus Sireo and an affiliate of The John Buck Company
Sony Center contains a mix of shops, restaurants, a conference centre, hotel rooms, luxurious rented suites and condominiums, offices, art and film museums, cinemas, an IMAX theater, and a "Sony Style" store. Free Wi-Fi connections are available for all visitors. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the centre also had a large television screen on which the games were broadcast to viewers sitting in the large open area in the middle.
The Sony Center is located near the Berlin Potsdamer Platz railway station for easy walking accessibility. A large shopping centre is nearby, as is a myriad of hotels, the Deutsche Bahn central offices, and an office building featuring the fastest lift in Europe.
